When a Climate Change Reshapes your Hair Routine
The case for updating your hair care
One of the long, frustrating quests many of us face is finding the right products. Some people eventually give up. Others find one thing that sort of works and never question it again. And many of us get caught chasing the next recommendation.
Between endless ads, influencers, and a culture built around constant consumption, it’s surprisingly difficult to pare down what we’re buying.
Two of my core values are intentional consumption and quality. Since moving to a new climate, I’ve tried—again and again—to find products that truly support my hair, skin, and body. Often I reach a point where something seems to work, I get bored, or I eventually realize it actually isn’t working at all.
It’s exhausting.
But this routine came back under the microscope when I moved into a humid climate and suddenly my hair began reacting to everything. Products that once worked were now leaving it frizzy and unmanageable. When I used to travel between dry and humid climates, I could ignore the difference for a few weeks. Now that humidity is my everyday reality, it became too obvious to dismiss. I had to get honest with myself about whether the products and routines I was relying on were actually serving me.
That question—is this really working for me?—is what led me back to rebuilding my routine from the ground up. Maybe this list will inspire you to do the same. To look at whatever routines you’ve built and ask: is this still serving me, or does it need to evolve with new circumstances?
It might be your morning or evening routine. The time you set aside for yourself. The stack of books you keep meaning to read instead of scrolling. Or even something practical, like setting up your taxes monthly instead of scrambling once a year. Almost every routine benefits from an occasional check-in to see if it’s still supporting the life you’re actually living.
